How do I donate by text message?
Text CHILD5 to 70255 to make a single £5 donation to St Andrew’s Children’s Society.
Text CHILD10 to 70255 to make a single £10 donation to St Andrew’s Children’s Society.
You must be aged 16+ and have the bill payer’s permission.
What will I be charged?
Every time you send us a donation by text message, you will be charged the donation amount plus your standard network message charge (which will vary depending on service provider rates).
You will then receive a reply confirmation text message. Your service provider may charge you for this reply confirmation text message.
If you send your text message to an incorrect mobile short code (5-digit number), you will not donate, but you may still be charged your standard network message charge.
Please note that this service may not be supported by all Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO). If a specific MVNO does not support the service, then following an attempt to donate via text message, no donation will be made, nor error message received.
How will the charge appear on my bill?
The charge will appear on your bill as a five-digit number or JustGiving.
Will I be charged VAT?
No VAT will be charged on your donation.
Can I donate by text message from outside of the UK?
No. We can only accept text donations from a UK mobile. This does not include the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or other non-UK mobile networks.
Please note that if you donate from a UK mobile when you are outside of England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, your network operator may charge you.
Are there limits to how much I can donate by text a day?
Yes, the most you can donate to us each day (12.00 am to 11.59 pm) is £40 per mobile number. There is also a monthly limit of £240 per month.
Your standard network provider may still charge you a message charge if you try to donate once you have reached your daily and/or monthly limit.
How much of my donation do you receive?
We receive 95% from every text donation made. We pay a payment processing fee of 5% to Just Giving for each text donation we receive through them.
100% of the donation we receive after the processing fee will be used on adoption support.
Gift Aid
If you are an eligible UK taxpayer, we may be able to claim an additional 25p in Gift Aid from the Government for every £1 you donate to us.
You may be contacted by text on the mobile number you used to give you the opportunity to add Gift Aid to your donation. If you are sent a link to a page where you can submit your details then, as with any mobile browsing, you may incur charges from your network provider. If you are asked to text those details, then a standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates) will be incurred.
Can I receive a refund for network charges?
No refunds are available for any network charges incurred in relation to any text message made, received or for any misdialled short codes or misspelt keyword.
What happens if I don’t have enough credit in my mobile phone to make the donation and pay for the network charge?
Your donation may be unsuccessful.
How will you protect my data?
We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and complying with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations (Amendment) 2016 and the GDPR Regulation 2018.
