Government help and support for foster carers

Tax allowances for foster carers

The government offers tax allowances for foster carers. Did you know that foster carers are classed as self-employed? They can claim a tax exemption of up to £18,140 per household. They can also claim tax relief for every week they foster a child.

You can find out more about the help and support available to you as a foster carer from the government here. There is also a useful example:

All of our foster carers receive free membership to The Fostering Network. They can access the free webinars and resources to show them how to take advantage of the tax allowances, help and support being offered by the government when completing their tax returns.
