SafeBase Parenting Programme
SafeBase is an empowering Therapeutic Parenting Program created to meet the needs of parents who are seeking to gain a better understanding of their children’s behaviour.
Who should attend?
All adopters/foster carers from 12 weeks after child/children join family.
The SafeBase Parenting Programme has several key objectives:
- Educate and inform parents about attachment, brain development and the impact of trauma, but crucially, also help parents to make links to their own child’s early experiences.
- Teach parents techniques/strategies to build positive attachments and give them the tools to tackle unwanted behaviours.
- Offer a safe space for parents to talk openly and frankly about the issues they struggle with.
- Enable parents to exchange ideas and gain mutual support.
Main techniques used in SafeBase
In recognition that children learn best through play, SafeBase uses Theraplay®. This will build upon the training families may have already had on Theraplay.
Attachment narrative therapy is part of the programme as a technique that uses stories to help communicate and connect with children.
The one day online workshop will take place on:
3 March 2026 10am – 2.30pm
AND
6 October 2026 10am – 2.30pm
Families who foster through St Andrews Children’s Society will be allocated a funded place on this training. Please let us know the date you will attend and names and ages of your child/children: info@standrews-children.org.uk or call 0131 454 3370.
