Speak to an adopter

Are you thinking about adopting? It's a big step.

Would you like to speak to someone who’s already been through the whole adoption process and is now an approved adopter, to help you make your decision?

We can help you

If you’re thinking about adopting through St Andrew’s Children’s Society, you can speak to one of our adopters. They would be happy to answer your questions and share their adoption journey experiences with you.

What do people talk about?
You can ask our adopter whatever will help you decide if adopting a child is right for you.

Common questions might include:

  • What is the adoption journey like?
  • Were there any challenges along the way?
  • What did you enjoy most about the adoption journey?
  • What is it like being an adoptive parent?
  • What’s it like adopting siblings?
  • What’s it like adopting a child with additional support needs?
  • How did your birth children feel about you adopting?
  • What is the adoption support like at St Andrew’s Children’s Society?
  • Do you have contact with the birth family?
  • Was there anything that held you back from adopting?
  • What were your experiences of adopting as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
  • What were your experiences of adopting as someone who follows a faith?
  • Why did you choose St Andrew’s Children’s Society?
  • Would you recommend St Andrew’s Children’s Society as an adoption agency?
How would the meeting take place?
We will match you with a suitable adopter from St Andrew’s Children’s Society and then arrange a mutually convenient time for you to meet.
You can chat with our adopter over the phone, meet them virtually or communicate with them by email.

Next steps?

Please call 0131 454 3370 or email info@standrews-children.org.uk to find out more about adopting through St Andrew’s Children’s Society and speaking to one of our adopters.
We will send you an adoption pack and ask you about the types of questions you would like to ask our adopter.
We do this so that we can arrange the meeting with an adopter who has experienced what you want to talk about. For example, if you are thinking about adopting siblings, we would match you with an adopter who has adopted siblings.
We welcome adoption enquiries from people who live within 60 miles of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Elgin.
