We may be able to make your dream come true!

When it comes to making a will, it’s right that your family and friends come first but many people also like to remember a cause that’s close to their hearts; which they have supported during their lifetime or which they or a loved one have benefited from.

Making your will doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive but it is advisable to consult a solicitor to make sure that your will is going to have the effect you wish it to.

If you already have a will but wish to make a change or add something you can ask your solicitor to add a written instruction (called a codicil) which has to be signed and witnessed the same way as your will does.

If you would like to leave a gift to St Andrew’s Children’ in your will there are three main ways to do this:

After all your other gifts have been made you can leave the remainder of your estate, or a percentage of the remainder, to St Andrew’s Children’s Society.

You can leave a fixed amount of money.

You can leave an item, for instance property, land, jewellery, or even shares.

Leaving a gift in your will is a very personal decision and there is no need to tell us if you have included us in your will.

However, if you felt able to let us know of your plans, we would welcome the opportunity to thank you and to keep you up to date with our achievements so that you can rest assured that your gift will make a lasting difference.

Four things to remember:

1 – If you share a home with a partner but aren’t married or civil partnered you must have a will if you want them to have the house.
2 – You can’t leave anything to the two people who witness your will, or their spouses.
3 – Remember to tell the person you choose to carry out your will (your executor) where your will is stored.
4 – The Government has a handy overview on writing your will here
