Nicola Sturgeon issues forced adoption apology

St. Andrew’s Children’s Society welcomes the statement made by the First Minister in the Scottish Parliament on 22nd March 2023.

Having just reached the significant milestone of our Centenary Year in 2022, we have reflected on our work over these years with thousands of birth mothers and other birth family members to help them cope with the loss of a child through adoption.  It is clear from our records that many women as a result of pressures from their families and wider Society at the time, felt they had no choice but to have their child adopted.  This agency has always striven to show compassion to those that came to us for our help and, to this day we work with women to assist them to cope with the life-long, emotional impact of having a child adopted.
